Program Overview

This introductory course aims to convey to the student the primary knowledge of the shipping law and practice of the Mainland of China. The key sectors which are to be covered include Chinese legal system, setting up in China, contracting with Chinese entities, carriage of goods by sea, shipping contracts, ship and ship-related rights, marine casualties, marine insurance, agency, dispute resolution and maritime procedural law. This course intends to present the unique features of Chinese shipping law and tries to prepare the students for recognizing and dealing with uncomplicated legal issues in relation to Chinese shipping industry. This course will be taught by Jiang Lin (John), Associate Professor of Shanghai Maritime University. John is a practicing lawyer of the Mainland of China and solicitor of England and Wales. He is also a key arbitrator of Shanghai Arbitration Commission and supporting member of London Maritime Arbitrator s Association. (1 Credit).
