Program Overview

This is a basic course in Louisiana contract law with primary emphasis upon the Louisiana Civil Code as revised in 1985, and comparisons to the common law. It explores, comparatively, the general concept of a legal obligation, and more particularly the principles of civil law contracts. Matters dealt with include capacity, consent and cause, formation of contracts, effects of contracts, and remedies for nonperformance. First-year students must take Obligations I OR Contracts II. Students pursuing the certificate in European Legal Studies are required to take Obligations I if they took Contracts II as a first-year student, and vice-versa.
