BS Chemical Biology Biochemistry and Biophysics

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of California Santa Cruz

Program Overview

The graduate research track in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics (CB3) provides students with thorough, interdisciplinary training at the interface between chemistry and biology. The track focuses particularly on the study of biological systems at the molecular and mechanistic levels, using biophysical methods and the tools of synthetic organic chemistry to dissect biomolecules and their functions. Twenty-one faculty members from four departments participate in the CB3 track. New students complete rigorous coursework and conduct research rotations. CB3 students have the freedom to craft a graduate curriculum that simultaneously suits their individual career goals and provides a strong foundation for their dissertation research. The CB3 training environment is rich in seminar series, group meetings, and frequent collaborative interactions between research groups. Students receive financial support throughout their graduate career, contingent upon remaining in good academic standing.
