Two different programs of study leading to a master's degree are offered by the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The formal requirements for the MS degree (thesis option) are twentyfour credit hours of approved coursework beyond the bachelor's degree, along with an approved master's thesis. The formal requirement for the MS degree (nonthesis option) is thirty credit hours of approved coursework beyond the bachelor's degree. The MS degree (nonthesis option) is a terminal degree in this department. Current research includes multidisciplinary initiatives in biomolecular structure, molecular biophysics, computational and theoretical chemistry, materials chemistry, nanochemistry, bioorganic chemistry, photochemistry and photobiology, polymer chemistry, sensors, and environmental chemistry.
