Program Overview

Baylor University offers both the M. S. and Ph.D. degree in geology. To be qualified for admission to graduate study the student must have completed a bachelor's degree in geology or related discipline with an overall minimum grade-point average of 2.9 and preferably a 3.0 in the major. The GRE test is required, and GRE scores in the 50th percentile or higher are preferable. Requirements for the master's degree are 30 semester hours of graduate courses including 6 semester hours of thesis. A minimum of 12 semester hours (excluding thesis hours) must be 5000-level courses for the M.S. The Ph.D. degree requires a minimum of 60 hours beyond the bachelor's degree including 48 graduate course hours and 12 semester hours of dissertation.
