Program Overview

The MMI ScM program is designed for students who wish to gain a solid didactic background in infectious diseases and guided research experience in the laboratory or field. Coursework focuses on the biology and pathogenesis of major bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic diseases. ScM students conduct one laboratory rotation, complete a written comprehensive examination at the end of the first year, and complete an original research project under the guidance and mentorship of a member of the MMI core faculty. The program is designed to provide the academic, research, professional experiences, and credentials that enhance the competitiveness of students who apply for advanced training in a PhD program or medical school and who are considering upper-level research positions in academia, government or industry.
