Program Overview

The Department of Sociology offers a two year graduate program of study leading to the Master of Arts degree in Sociology with a Concentration in Criminology. MA students in Sociology may elect a thesis or a non-thesis option. The thesis option requires 33 semester hours, including 6 hours of thesis. The non-thesis option requires 33 semester hours, including a 6-hour internship. The M.A. program curriculum aims to develop student s sociological imagination and the expertise to apply it in a variety of settings. Graduates with an M.A. in Sociology from UNCG are employed in a variety of careers, including social science research, social service, community college instruction, law enforcement, child and victim advocacy, grant writing, statistics, administration in business federal, state and local government agencies.
