This program includes required preparation in economic theory and quantitative methods of analysis, and the choice of two elective fields from:Advanced Economic Theory, Economic Development, Econometrics, Economic History, Health Economics, Industrial Organization, International Economics, Labor Economics, Money and Financial Institutions, and Public Economics. Persons contemplating the Ph.D. should prepare themselves by taking rigorous courses in economics, mathematics, and mathematical statistics. Each year about eight to twelve students start the Ph.D. program. Some of these students subsequently elect to complete the M.A. rather than to continue in the Ph.D. program. Typically five to seven Ph.D.s are awarded annually.
