The purpose of the graduate program in Political Science is to train professional political scientists who intend to pursue careers in research, teaching, and public service. The department offers programs leading to the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. The graduate program in Political Science encourages the study of a variety of substantive concerns, methodological approaches, and research skills. Among the department's special areas of strength are United States politics (public opinion and voting, state politics and policy, race, ethnicity and politics, and judicial politics); international relations (international and domestic political conflict, terrorism, and international political economy); comparative politics (authoritarian politics, comparative political behavior, political parties, and social movements); and political methodology (social data analytics, network analysis, time series analysis, and text as data).
