The M.A. program emphasizes research and scholarship contributing to the scientific understanding of psychology. Students may, through selection of appropriate elective courses, choose a concentration within the field of general psychology. Areas of concentration represented in the department of psychology include Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Social-Personality Psychology. The program does not provide the necessary training for graduates to be eligible to work as counselors or therapists upon graduation.
