Program Overview

Queen's University has trained health science students in Aboriginal contexts for some time, (in particular through the Queen's University Weeneebayko program in Moose Factory), this optional third year of training for physicians in Aboriginal Health is unique. The resident will have the opportunity to explore the historical roots of the health issues facing Aboriginal communities as well as participate in the delivery of care in different Aboriginal settings in Canada today. The potential benefits of this third year program are many. Firstly, family physicians who are specially trained in Aboriginal health issues will be better prepared to serve Aboriginal communities and provide more culturally sensitive care.
