Pomology is the science of growing fruit. It is a branch of botany devoted to the study and cultivation of fruit. Pomology is so important to the production of fruit that the United States USDA established a division of pomology in 1886. If you have green fingers and a love for plants and trees, you ll be pleased to hear that there are many career options available to you. Generally speaking, Pomologist are responsible for cultivating new fruits and nuts, as well as maximising the production of existing varieties. They also make sure that crops are more resistant to diseases and adverse weather and that they remain commercially viable.
