Program Overview

The graduate program in Theatre and Performance Studies trains scholar-artists for the academic profession, with a focus on performance history, dramatic literature, and theory. We emphasize research with primary materials as well as field research. Students are encouraged to pursue their own scholarly interests under the guidance of faculty both in this department and in others on campus. The program is not designed to grant a terminal M.A. degree. Instead, it is expected that students will proceed beyond the M.A. degree to Ph.D. study.
