One of UNCG s oldest PhD programs, the Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies PhD has an outstanding record of preparing students for successful academic careers. The CARS program is unique in the field in that it focuses on developing teaching skills in addition to the research skills expected of PhD graduates. Each doctoral student engages in a mentored teaching experience designed to prepare him or her to take sole responsibility for teaching a course.
