The Department of Mathematics & Computer Science at Rutgers Newark and the Department of Mathematics at New Jersey Institute of Technology offer a joint Ph.D. program in the Mathematical Sciences. This is a rigorous program in mathematics consisting of extensive course work and original research in one of the department's many fields of expertise leading to a dissertation. Typically, the program is completed in five to six years. Applicants to the program should have a strong undergraduate background in mathematics. Combined graduate faculties from both institutions provide research opportunities in a variety of fields including: Algebra, Analysis, Geometric Group Theory, Kleinian Groups, Low-dimensional Topology, Mathematical Physics, Number Theory, Representation Theory and Teichm ller Theory.
