Juris Doctor Full Time

3 Years On Campus Phd Program

University of San Francisco

Program Overview

The traditional Full-Time JD Program requires three years of study. First-year students are divided into two sections and follow a required core curriculum concentrated in the first and second years. In order to begin to tailor their education early on, our students may choose an elective course as early as their first year. The Legal Research, Writing, and Analysis class is taught in sections of approximately 20 students to ensure the highest level of interactive study. The rigorous curriculum, coupled with the demands of class preparation, library research, writing assignments, and co-curricular and student activities, creates a demanding schedule for full-time students. As such, the School of Law limits full-time law students to no more than 20 hours of employment per week during the academic year. For the JD degree, students who begin their law study Fall 2017 must earn at least 84 units of course credit, including 38 units in required core courses, plus additional program requirements. In the full-time program, required courses are concentrated in the first and second years, and students may take one elective in their first year.
