Program Overview

The School of Sociology offers advanced degree programs that prepare students for careers in research and teaching. Only students who expect to obtain the Ph.D. degree are typically admitted. Graduate Program in Sociology lead to the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Students combine study of the basic theories and methods of sociological inquiry with concentration in one or more of the following areas: culture; economic sociology; environment; health and medicine; law and society; organizations; political sociology (collective action and social movements, political institutions, world systems); social inequalities (gender, race and ethnicity, and stratification), and social networks.
