Achievements

Abercorn students are being educated in various subjects including Mathematics, English, Science, HASS, Digital Technologies, Health & Physical Education, and The Arts. To enhance their learning experience, specialist teachers from Monto visit the school on a weekly or fortnightly basis to teach Japanese and Music. The school takes pride in implementing the Age Appropriate Pedagogies approaches and principles to effectively deliver the curriculum. This approach ensures that students are actively engaged in their learning, fostering a genuine passion for acquiring knowledge. In the English department, we place great emphasis on cultivating good reading habits. Students are encouraged to engage in activities such as Read to Self during school hours and Home Reading for a duration of twenty minutes. Additionally, the Abercorn Book Club is available for most of our students to participate in during one term each year. In the field of Mathematics, we focus on developing students' proficiency in various areas including mathematical understanding, problem-solving, reasoning, and fluency. To achieve this, students utilize concrete materials, ICTs, and online math programs, and engage in open-ended tasks that aim to enhance their mathematical capabilities. Furthermore, students are provided with the opportunity to join the STEM Club, where they can explore and utilize our Lego Robotic technology.

Non-Academic Achievements

Abercorn students are enthusiastic about sports and are eager to participate in representing the Monto Cluster of schools in North Burnett in various sports such as netball, cricket, rugby league, and softball. Annually, the school organizes 'The Goodwill Games' athletics carnival, where students from other small schools in the North Burnett region come together to compete with a sense of camaraderie. The older students at Abercorn demonstrate a high level of care and support towards their younger peers, both within the classroom and beyond. The community of Abercorn is known for being friendly and family-oriented, with a highly involved and supportive P&C Association.
