Ackworth School is based at Ackworth, Pontefract, United Kingdom. John Fothergill founded Ackworth School in 1779 on behalf of The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). The Quaker ethos, with its emphasis on introspection and the quest for God (or good) in oneself and in others, is at the core of the School because it was founded for Quaker boys and girls. It was initially a boarding school for kids who were Quakers. Today, day students make up the majority of the student body. In the boarding houses, there are more than 20 different nationalities.
Ackworth School mission is to create an international, well-integrated, and disciplined community where the Quaker ideals are viewed as the foundation of the school. The school encourages students to develop their sense of self-worth and to recognise and enjoy the advantages of being healthy. The school fosters in students a sense of appreciation for their beautiful surroundings, the labour of those who care for them, and a broader comprehension of environmental challenges.
