School History & Details

Under the Country High School Hostels Authority, the college was first established in 1974 as Amity House and had its extensions finished in 1993. Around the corner on Burt Street, the Priory Hostel joined forces with Amity House in 1989, and this heritage-listed structure is still in use as a private home today. More recently, the college reopened as Albany Residential College in 2010 after undergoing extensive renovations. Eight rural residential colleges, including Albany, and one city-based residential college came under the Department of Education's jurisdiction in 2017.

Albany Residential College in Western Australia has achieved significant milestones that enhance the boarding experience for its students. A notable accomplishment is the substantial $17.68 million upgrade announced in 2008, which expanded the college’s capacity and improved its facilities. This development included new common rooms, indoor recreation areas, expanded dining facilities, and state-of-the-art computer technology, fostering an environment conducive to both academic and personal growth.  The college’s strategic location adjacent to Albany Senior High School allows students to easily access educational resources, while its proximity to the city center provides opportunities for community engagement.  By offering a supportive and nurturing environment, Albany Residential College continues to play a pivotal role in the development of its students, many of whom have excelled in various fields, reflecting the college’s commitment to holistic education.
