In the Sunshine district, the name Albion had been in use for roughly 150 years. It dates back to the time when immigrants from England made up the majority of the area's settlers. About 1850, an association was founded with the goal of purchasing land from the government, which resulted in the creation of a township or village. One reason for the name 'Albion' may have been that the association required all of its members to be Englishmen. The area's streets had the names of English counties. An appeal for an Albion school was signed by a few parents in December 1854, the month of Eureka. This was converted to Albion School No. 6. The school is shown as being situated between Somerset and Lancaster Streets on maps from 1868 and 1879. The Albion Primary School was established in the year 1874.
