Over its more than 70-year history, Alice Springs School of the Air—the first of its kind in Australia—has experienced significant expansion and transformation. The Alice Springs School of the Air was established in the year 1951 and has taught thousands of pupils from its original concept by Miss Adelaide Miethke through its trial run, formal opening, construction of a specialized facility, and more recent transition from radio to broadband satellite technologies. The school has always worked to create new and better ways to enrich the education of Australia's most remote children and young adults, facilitating daily communication between students, home tutors, and teachers.

Pioneering Distance Education: Established on 8 June 1951, ASSOA was the world’s first school to provide education via radio broadcasts, setting a precedent for remote learning globally.
