Mother Berchmans and Mother Aquin, two Sisters of Mercy, founded Aranmore Catholic College in 1903 on its current site in Leederville. Originally, the school was named as Our Lady of Perpetual Succour School, Arranmore, and it was coeducational. Mother Berchmans gave their new convent residence at the intersection of Marian and Shakespeare Streets the name "Arranmore" because she was named after an island off the west coast of Ireland. A few years later, twelve boarders joined Sophia Hudson, the school's first pupil, and eventually the school was renamed St. Mary's, teaching both boys and girls up to the sixth grade and exclusively girls in high school. The Christian Brothers established Christian Brothers' College Leederville, a boys' high school, in 1942. Separate but adjacent, the two schools ran for more than 40 years. In order to accommodate the increasing demand for enrollment and provide students with additional educational options, the two institutions merged in 1986 to form Aranmore Catholic College.

Thon Maker is a professional basketball player who completed four years of high school at Aranmore before entering the NBA draft. Owen Buttigieg, a member of the Class of 2022 and recognized as the college dux, has recounted his experiences studying in Japan, emphasizing the institution's dedication to providing global learning opportunities. Christian Passalacqua, from the Class of 2020, demonstrated his exceptional talent during his WAAPA Honours Recital held at the Rosemount Hotel. Additionally, alumni Zakiya Kereopa, Grason Makara, and Jackson Pugh returned to the college to conduct a skills session for current students, sharing their rugby expertise and experiences.
