The Ebenezer Church, the oldest structure in Australia, was founded in 1809 by Thomas Arndell, one of the Hawkesbury's original settlers, and the inspiration behind the name Arndell Anglican College. Following years of planning, Craig Laffin, the first Headmaster, spearheaded the establishment of Arndell College in 1990 with the help of several local families. The College's original location was "Macquarie Retreat" on Threkeld Drive in Cattai. This property was a part of the original Arndell grant and was owned by Thomas's great-great-great-great-grandson, the Reverend Seton Arndell, who took a keen interest in the College during its formative years. The cross, the Hawkesbury River, and the book of learning were highlighted in the College's original symbol.
Arndell is a learning community that is centered on Christ and aims to provide a Christian education that prepares students to live in God's world. The central figure in God's story, as revealed in his Word, is Jesus, who has the power to reconcile humans to God. As part of the Anglican Schools Corporation, they are a Christian college. Young people are raised and educated at the school in conformity with the doctrines, precepts, beliefs, and teachings of the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church.
