School History & Details

The NSW Department of Education purchased a two-hectare (five-acre) plot of land in eastern Asquith in February 1958 to establish a new girls high school, replacing the Hornsby Home Science School (founded in 1947) which was lost in a bushfire along with other school buildings on Peats Ferry Road in 1957. Asquith Girls High School began its official operations on 1 January 1959.

Achievements

HSC Performance: AGHS consistently ranks among the top comprehensive schools in New South Wales. In 2021, 54 students achieved Band 6 results (scores of 90% or higher) in at least one subject. The top ATAR was 98.80, with a student placing 5th in NSW for French Beginners.  NAPLAN and Competitions: Students have demonstrated significant achievements in NAPLAN assessments and external competitions, including high distinctions in the Australian Geography Competition, Australian Mathematics Competition, and ICAS English Competition.

Performing Arts: The school offers acclaimed extracurricular programs in dance, drama, and music. Students participate in various performances and events, including the NSW Band Festival and Schools Spectacular.  Leadership and Wellbeing: AGHS provides numerous leadership opportunities through programs like the Student Representative Council (SRC), Prefect body, and Peer Support program. The school also focuses on student wellbeing, implementing initiatives such as the PERMA model and Restorative Justice practices.  Sports Excellence: Students have achieved success in various sports, with teams competing in basketball, netball, soccer, and more. Notably, the basketball team won the NSW Combined High Schools Championship in 2019.
