School History & Details

Early in 1916, the Babinda State school building on Church Street was finished, and it stayed there until 1969, when the school moved to its current location. A few historical specifics are: By 1920, there were 120 students registered at the institution.
There were two verandahs and two classrooms at the Church Street school. Two more classrooms were added in 1921, and two more rooms were constructed in 1933. Buildings for Manual Training and Domestic Science were constructed in 1934, adding even more classroom space. On June 19, 1963, the secondary department opened. On October 15, 1980, a preschool was established on the current site, and in 1983, the secondary department saw its first senior expansion.

    • The children are supported by Babinda P-12 State School as they pursue their hobbies and hone their numerous intelligences. They endeavour to make sure that every student feels welcome and comfortable in their school community and that learning should be engaging and enjoyable. Delivering the Australian Curriculum and helping the students acquire the interpersonal and practical skills necessary to succeed on any chosen route are the main goals. Every kid has the capacity to learn, and as a school, they go above and beyond to make sure they are realising their full potential. She also received the Clinical Educator of the Year Award in 2019 for her commitment to mentoring junior doctors in the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.
