A section of property at Balgowlah Heights Public School, or North Harbour as it was then called, was set aside for public school use in 1916. After the area was cleared and surveyed in 1929, a building permit was given on July 6, 1932. On January 18, 1933, a solitary movable structure with a pair of "closets" was finished at an expense of 384 pounds. On March 4, 1933, the school finally opened as an infants' school. Miss Annie Florence Williams was the teacher, and there were nine pupils in Year 2 and twenty students in Year 1. It stayed in this category until 1946, when it changed to a one-teacher school. Currently, the school has more than 700 pupils enrolled. Lewis Street is home to the school.
