Banana State School, a coeducational institution founded in 1871, is located in Central Queensland, around 150 km west of Gladstone and 45 km south-west of Rockhampton along the Dawson Highway. The peculiar moniker "banana" originates from the heyday of bullock drives across Central Queensland. The bull who helped drive bullock drays through the area was a yellow-colored bull known by the name Banana. The township was named after Banana the bull, who met an unfortunate end in the creek immediately outside of town. At Banana State School, they prioritise helping pupils develop a positive approach towards learning in order to prepare them for successful roles as responsible citizens in the twenty-first century.

A certificate, a stationary gift set, a bookmark, and an Aussie of the Month badge are given to each recipient, who can display it with pride and save it as a keepsake. Ben Jones was chosen in February because he consistently demonstrated good manners and showed consideration for the school's environment and property. Ben plays fairly during breaks and is inclusive of others.
