Barellan Central School is deeply engaged in a variety of academic initiatives and competitions designed to enhance student learning and skills. Among these are the Premier’s Spelling Bee, which fosters spelling proficiency in a fun environment for primary students, and the Premier’s Reading Challenge, aimed at instilling a passion for reading in students from Kindergarten through Year 9. The school also participates in the Premier’s Debating Challenge, offering students in Years 5 to 12 the chance to refine their debating abilities, as well as public speaking competitions that help enhance their speech-writing and presentation skills. Additionally, the Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarships provide selected students in Years 10 and 11 with the opportunity to visit important overseas sites related to Australia’s military history. Furthermore, Barellan Central School is a member of the Riverina Access Partnership (RAP), a collaborative effort among six central schools that leverages video conferencing technology to offer a comprehensive curriculum for senior students, allowing them to pursue their Higher School Certificate while remaining within their local community.
