Barkers Vale Public School was established back in 1933 on a very small block of land as a small institute. Initially, the school was considered illegal and was not accepted as a formal educational Institute for a very long time. The school was able to sustain through some local children who were sent from the nearby areas. The progress of the school has been extremely sporadic and not at all streamlined. The school faced several setbacks during the time of the Second World War. With fluctuating numbers of students, the school even feared closing. However, it was in 1996 that the Department of Education decided to take over and the Barkers Valley school as we know it today came into existence. The school settled into a new location and is now a very well-known institution in the area.
