In honor of Arch-Deacon George Barnes, who had founded the Bombay Education Society in 1815, Barnes School was established on January 29, 1925. At that time, Barnes School was founded mainly to provide Anglo-Indian boys and girls with a solid education and a decent upbringing. The prep school is private and coeducational. Established in 1925, the Anglican school operates under the guidance of the Bombay Education Society. The school and Christ Church School in Mumbai are twinned.
