Sir Peter Blake (1948–2001) was a celebrated yachtsman and environmental advocate from New Zealand. Raised in Bayswater on Auckland’s North Shore, he attended local schools including Bayswater School, Belmont Intermediate, and Takapuna Grammar School. Blake gained worldwide recognition for leading New Zealand to triumph in the America’s Cup and played a vital role in fostering environmental consciousness through his various expeditions. Dr. George Mason (1930–2024) was a prominent scientist and philanthropist known for his impactful work in environmental research and education. Growing up in Bayswater during World War II, he later studied botany and chemistry at the University of Auckland. Dr. Mason's enduring legacy includes founding the George Mason Centre for the Natural Environment, which supports initiatives aimed at ecological restoration.
