Beeliar was officially designated as a suburb in 1993, but it was not established by the City of Cockburn until early 1995, when it was separated from the southern part of Yangebup. The origin of Beeliar Primary School is quite unique, as the school site was initially home to two separate schools. According to a statement by the former Education Minister Colin Barnett, Beeliar was set to become the first educational campus in Western Australia where both a Government and non-Government school would share facilities. The joint venture between the Education Department and the Uniting Church of Australia Schools Education Commission led to the construction of Beeliar Primary School and St Luke’s Primary School side by side, with shared facilities such as a library, assembly area, art and craft center, and music room. The schools also had common amenities like netball courts and an oval. Beeliar Primary School officially opened its doors in 1999 under the leadership of Mr. Peter Glendenning as the Foundation Principal. The school began with around 120 students from Kindergarten to Year 7, along with 20 staff members. Some of the current staff at the school were part of the original team that opened the school back in 1999.
