School History & Details

A number of citizens, almost all of them were German immigrants, wrote a letter on April 15, 1911, asking for the establishment of a school among them. It was suggested that a school be opened in the district on July 24, 1911. A new back verandah was erected, and the school at Wondai was moved to the Binjour Plateau. The front and rear verandahs of the school were 7 feet wide, measuring 42 feet by 14 feet at that time. The first day of classes was September 15, 1913. 29 students had been enrolled by September 26. By the end of the Binjaour Plateau State School year, 37 students had been registered, 28 of whom spoke very little English. John Woodcock served as the first head teacher.
