In 1991, Bishop Druitt College was founded by Ken Langford-Smith, the headmaster of The Armidale School, in association with the Right Reverend Bruce Schultz, the Bishop of Grafton. In the course of the following two years, the interim Bishop Druitt institution Council, which set the groundwork for an autonomous Anglican institution, was presided over by Father Stephen Pullin, the rector of St. John's Anglican Church in Coffs Harbour. Following extensive planning, construction in the North Boambee Valley started in 1993 with the purchase of land. When the college first opened in 1994, it had 57 primary students. By the end of the year, that number had grown to 100. The secondary school moved into newly constructed classrooms in 1995.

BDC’s Class of 2024 demonstrated outstanding academic performance: 99% of students achieved at least one Band 4 or higher in their HSC subjects. The cohort secured 36 Band 6 or Notional Band 6/E4 results. 74% of students attained at least one Band 5 or 6 result. 67% of Extension course students achieved E3 or E4 bands. 78% received early university entry offers, with some students securing multiple offers prior to sitting the HSC. These achievements reflect the college’s emphasis on academic rigor and personalized learning pathways.
