Originally called the Blue Mountains Church of England Grammar School for Boys, Blue Mountains Grammar School was founded in 1918 near Springwood. Blue Mountains Grammar School for Boys moved its 17 students to its present site in Wentworth Falls in 1918 after merging with the MacLaurin School for Boys from Leura. The school's enrolment increased to the point that it was necessary to buy Blue Horizons, a boarding house that is now known as the Guest House Silvermere. Next, classrooms were constructed on the property across Lake Street. Up until 1965, when the junior students were transferred to Lake Street and the seniors returned to their current location, both of these were utilised for senior pupils.Blue Mountains Grammar School is commemorating a century of outstanding academic performance.

Outstanding HSC Results: The Class of 2024 achieved remarkable success, with 25% of students attaining Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks (ATARs) above 90, and nearly 50% scoring over 80. This reflects the school’s dedication to academic rigor and student support.  Mathematics Excellence: Year 4 student Hume Vivian secured first place nationally in the “Investigating with Mathematics” competition. His project involved constructing a detailed LEGO model of the Junior School campus to analyze its potential for solar energy generation, demonstrating innovation and environmental consciousness.  Regional Academic Leadership: In 2020, BMGS was ranked 115th in New South Wales by the Sydney Morning Herald, making it the top-performing school in the Blue Mountains region.

Odyssey Program: Launched in 2023, the Odyssey Program is an innovative Year 7 initiative that emphasizes student-centered learning. It integrates project-based learning, instructional coaching, and peer feedback to cultivate critical thinking and engagement.  Outdoor Education: BMGS leverages its unique location within the Blue Mountains to offer extensive outdoor education programs, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and annual camping experiences from Years 2 to 10. These programs aim to develop leadership, resilience, and a connection to nature.  Performing Arts: The school offers a robust performing arts curriculum, with dedicated streams in drama and music from Year 5 onwards, fostering creativity and self-expression among students.

Ben St Lawrence: Olympic long-distance runner who represented Australia in the 2012 Olympics. Amanda Spratt: Professional road cyclist and Olympian, representing Australia in the 2012 Summer Olympics.  Neave McHugh: Alumnus from the Class of 2022, recognized for her achievements at just 19 years old.
