The institution commenced operations on January 23, 1967, initially designated as Nashville State High School, and adopted its present name on September 25, 2000. In 2018, Bracken Ridge State High School achieved the distinction of being the first school to operate a classroom continuously on renewable energy alone.

Year 12 Success: In 2024, 100% of Year 12 students achieved either a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA).
