School History & Details

Bradford Grammar School was established in 1548 and received its Charter from King Charles II in 1662. In 1871, the school welcomed Reverend William Hulton Keeling as its headmaster, who had previously transformed a grammar school in Northampton. Together with merchant Jacob Behrens, Bradford Observer editor William Byles, and Vincent William Ryan Vicar of Bradford, Keeling further improved the school. By 1895, it was recognized as being on par with the top public schools. Keeling was honored with the Freedom of the City before he passed away in 1916.
