Brigalow State School was established in the year 1908. Brigalow is called for the Acacia Agrifolia, also referred to as the Brigalow tree, which was the original native vegetation in the area. The district is located on the western side of the Darling Downs, and cotton, wheat, barley, sorghum, and chickpeas are grown on the two soils. 1910 saw the opening of Brigalow State School; a train derailment forced the town to relocate, and a butter factory was constructed in Chinchilla.
