School History & Details

Columba Phelan purchased Dr. Foxton's opulent home in the 1890s. A convent was founded, and the nearby Holy Family Parish School opened its doors a year later. Brigidine College became a secondary school in January 1929. Slowly, enrolment increased, and in 1961 a new building—now called Tullow—was finished. This marked the start of Brigidine College's expansion, which is still going strong today. The College's educational facilities have since expanded to include the following buildings.

Achievements

Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) Success: In 2024, Brigidine College celebrated outstanding academic results, with graduates exemplifying the school’s core values of strength and gentleness.   QCE Achievement Award: Tiah Kalaja, the 2024 school captain, was honored with the “Highest Achievement by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Student” award, recognizing her exceptional academic performance.

Cocurricular Arts Showcase: Over 200 students participated in the annual Cocurricular Arts Show, “Through the Decades,” highlighting talents in singing, dancing, acting, and music.   Athletic Excellence: Year 11 student Katelyn Pretorius achieved 8th place nationally in the U17 100m hurdles at the 2024 Australian Athletics Championships, showcasing the school’s support for athletic development.
