School History & Details

Six Brigidine Sisters, led by Mother John Synan, travelled from Ireland in 1883 at the invitation of Bishop Murray of Maitland to open the first Brigidine school in Australia in Coonamble, New South Wales. The Brigidine Sisters had moved to Lindfield in the north during the 1940s, and they needed more room to grow and educate their novices. In 1949, they bought land in St. Ives. On February 9, 1954, Principal Mother Romuald Walz and Mother Adrian Small welcomed nine girls—five in first year and four in second year—after completing the construction of a single structure.
