John Edwards MBE established British School Salalah (BSS) in 1970 as Salalah English Speaking School. The school, which received a Royal Charter in 1973, relocated to its current location in 1980. On April 23, 1981, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher inaugurated the current site. In May 2019, BSS and British School Muscat, a renowned international school of the highest caliber, established a new and significant partnership. Since then, BSM has taken over control of the school's governance, and BSS continues to tremendously profit from the opportunities this has created. The introduction of iGCSEs and International A-Levels through the FlexEd program most recently allowed students to continue their education at BSS.
