Brookefield State School

Brookfield Provisional School commenced operations on 27 March 1871, established on a 2-acre parcel of land generously donated by Mr. J. W. Barnett. The original structure of the school continues to serve various functions, including staff meetings, curriculum planning sessions, collaborative year-level discussions, and student lessons. On Wednesday, 8 May 2013, we commemorated 125 years of history with the unveiling of a bicentennial time capsule. Mr. Tom Cusack, who served as principal from 1984 to 2001 and holds the record as the longest-serving principal of the school, attended the event with his wife, Julie, alongside former students, parents, staff, and members of the Parents and Citizens Association. In 1988, the school had an enrollment of 183 students across 8 classes. Currently, the student body has grown to 511, with 21 classes in operation. The items contained within the time capsule were first displayed in the Resource Centre and subsequently showcased at the Brookfield Show.
