Browns Plains State School

Browns Plains was first identified as a place name in 1840 by surveyor Robert Dixon. Initially, the region served as grazing land for cattle, supplying meat to the convict settlement at Moreton Bay. From 1863, the coach route to Casino in New South Wales traversed Browns Plains. The mid-1870s saw an increase in land acquisition in the area. In 1872, George Stretton established a post office and accommodation house, subsequently applying for a license in 1874. According to the 1876 Bailliere's Gazetteer, Browns Plains was recognized as a postal center within a vast agricultural and pastoral district, boasting a population of 30. The area was characterized by its elevated terrain, featuring hilly ridges composed of sandstone and carboniferous materials, and was densely forested with light, sandy soil. The climate was regarded as healthy. By the early 1970s, the installation of reticulated water attracted the interest of land developers in the area's potential. Alfred Grant developed the first housing estate, named Ranchwood Hill, which comprised quarter-acre blocks located just behind the Browns Plains Hotel. At that time, the area was perceived as remote, leading to much of the land being sold to investors from New Guinea. The Browns Plains Tavern was inaugurated in 1976, marking a century since the establishment of the first hotel. In 1980, new shops were built at the intersection of Browns Plains Road, including a new post office. The place name reverted to Browns Plains, which was subsequently subdivided into other suburbs such as Regents Park, Hillcrest, and Heritage Park. In 1993, a library was established adjacent to the Greenbank RSL, followed by the opening of the Grand Plaza shopping center in 1994. The Logan West Library was constructed on Grand Plaza Drive in 2003, and the shopping center underwent an extension in 2006. St Bernadine's Catholic School commenced operations in 1982, followed by Browns Plains State School in 1983, Browns Plains State High School in 1985, Boronia Heights State School in 1990, Regents Park State School in 1994, and Yugumbir State School in 1996. Stretton State College was also established during this period.
