Brymore Academy was established in the year 1951. The history of Brymore's main school house is lengthy, diverse, and fascinating. The mansion, which has been around for more than 800 years, has witnessed both good and bad times, including the American Civil War, World War II, and shifting architectural trends. At a cost of £6,600, the Somerset County Council bought the estate in 1951, and in September 1952, after substantial repairs and modifications, it reopened as a Secondary Technical School. The big stable block from the late nineteenth century currently houses the school's workshops, and the extensive walled gardens are used by students to have their own individual plots. Since then, there has been significant modernization, with the construction of a new classroom block and new boarding facilities costing £ 6 million in recent years.
Brymore Academy foster responsibility by encouraging students to participate in day-to-day operations of the school, including early morning and late night agricultural work, upkeep of the beds, borders, and grounds, and support for major annual events. The "Brymore way" can be summed up as "labour with diligence" or "diligentia et labore." In order to prepare the students for life after Brymore, they strive to instill traditional values in them. These values include manners, respect, and hard work. On the other hand, they also provide a wide variety of extracurricular activities, many of which are detailed elsewhere on this page, to ensure that the students receive a well-rounded education.
