School History & Details

On January 1, 1912, Bundaberg State High School opened in buildings originally constructed for the Sugar Bureau on property that was bounded by Maryborough Street, Quay Street, and the Burnett River. On January 31, 1912, the school officially began with 59 students enrolled. The number increased to 76 by the conclusion of the first quarter, and the school had 90 students at the end of the year. Officially, 64.7 was the average number of pupils in 1912. English, Latin, French, German, mathematics, algebra, geometry, physics, and chemistry were among the disciplines taught in the Professional or Academic Course, which was the only course offered at the time.
