On January 26, 1963, Gayndah State High School debuted with 135 students enrolled. Mr. D L Dennis served as the Foundation Principal. Students had previously attended the Secondary Department and Rural School, which were a component of the Gayndah Primary School, until the Gayndah High School opened. With over 240 students enrolled in Years 7 through 12, the institution is currently known as The senior school also serves students who have finished their junior education in the Secondary Departments in Eidsvold, Mundubbera, and Biggenden, even though the junior school primarily serves the Gayndah District. Gayndah State High School and Wide Bay Institute of TAFE are incorporated into Burnett State College.
