On August 19, 1867, Camberwell Primary School debuted in a makeshift 40-by-12-foot structure across from the current school location. The reason for this was that not enough money had been raised to start construction. Thirty-four children were present. The new school building (which still contains Rooms 7 and 8) was opened on its current location on May 6, 1868. Up to 150 pupils were to be educated there. In 1872, the Education Act went into force, making education free and mandatory. There were now 186 students at Camberwell Primary School. Forrester's Hall, a 38-by-14-foot structure across the street, was rented by the school.
The goal of Camberwell Primary School is to instill in every child a love of learning as well as the knowledge and abilities necessary for them to thrive as active, healthy members of society. We thrive as active, multilingual, international citizens who are capable of overcoming obstacles as analytical, imaginative thinkers. Their excellent comprehensive education fosters a passion for learning that lasts a lifetime. Kindness, perseverance, respect, and curiosity as bilingual learners are their core values.
Camberwell Common School Campus is based at 290 Camberwell Rd, Camberwell VIC 3124, Australia.
