Cambooya State School opened in 1882 with just 12 students. The school was initially inhabited in a humble cottage with just one teacher. With the increase in enrolment, the school eventually shifted to a larger building with more teachers. It was in 1911 that the school finally shifted to its current building. Since then the school has continuously worked on expanding the campus and providing better facilities to students.
