School History & Details

Campbell's Creek was established in 1853, with Margaret Miller serving as the inaugural teacher. Initially, the school accommodated 49 students and conducted classes in a tent. In 1856, a timber schoolhouse was constructed, and by 1862, the institution was designated as a common school. It achieved the status of a state school in 1873, under the leadership of head teacher James Elvins. That same year, two local common schools closed, resulting in their students transferring to Campbell's Creek, which utilized the schoolhouse from one of the closed institutions for additional classrooms. In 1878, a new, larger school was erected on land across from the original site, leading to an enrollment of 404 students. However, by 1897, enrollment had declined to 125. The early 1900s saw a resurgence, with student numbers rising to 250. Mr. John Osborne assumed the role of head teacher in 1909. A back-to-school event in 1969 attracted 350 attendees, featuring a welcome home dance and awards for the oldest students and the oldest school photograph. In 1970, the institution was renamed Campbell's Creek Primary School. The school celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2003, marked by another back-to-school event showcasing historic dresses, toys, and books.
